Our Staff

Partners

The doctors are highly trained, specialist general practitioners; there are eight partners all of whom see patients in their surgeries as well as maintaining their individual responsibilities to the running of the surgery, and to the management of medical services in Wiltshire. The doctors undergo regular training, appraisal and revalidation in accordance with good practice. Although we are a large surgery, we are a friendly surgery; one advantage to our size is the opportunity for partners and other clinical staff to cultivate special interests, allowing us to share skills and opinions in more difficult cases. We believe this diversity of skills is to our patients’ benefit.

Practice Management

KATE LINDSAY

Deputy Practice Manager

I have been working within Primary care at the practice since April 2011, when I joined as the reception team leader. I have always had an interest in people management and was able to study to achieve a diploma within this field and was promoted into the role of HR Manager in 2016. I am a mental health first aider as well as the menopause champion for the practice staff members. My job summary within the practice is the delivery of people management strategies in support of the practice strategic aims. To not only deal with staff welfare and administration-centred activities, but also strategy and planning, adding value to the organisation. The finance side of my role includes all aspects of the smooth running of the practice, controlling spends, payroll and pension management. Interests outside of work include attending fitness classes, walking, spending time in open spaces and international travel.

ELLEN SIMMONDS

Quality Assurance Manager

Prior to joining the Avenue surgery in 2018 I was a Registered Manager in a Care Home, and I had the joy and privilege of working with older patients for over 30 years. On joining the Practice, I was recruited into an administrative role. I had many new skills to learn but I was proud to be offered the role of Quality Assurance Manager a year later. The pandemic caused difficult days and an enormous amount of hard work, but it also demonstrated the great success and happy camaraderie of working as a team. My role now in the practice is to work alongside and support our wonderful and hardworking team to continue to deliver the best quality service to all our patients and develop new initiatives in health screening and patient after care.

EMMA MURPHY

Administration Manager

I have worked in the NHS since the age of 17, in Cornwall, Manchester and now here at The Avenue Surgery, where I have worked for over 12 years. I joined the Administration Team at the Avenue as a Medical Secretary in 2010, I was promoted to Senior Administration Assistant some years later. I was then promoted to Administration Manager, which is the position I hold now. During my time as Senior Administration Assistant I spent time with each person in the team, learning their role, so I could effectively assist and guide the team. I now manage a team of 12 people – the Administration Team are responsible for the registration of all patients at the practice, deductions of patients, scanning of correspondence into patient’s medical records, summarising medical records, private medical reports, copies of medical records, referrals and much more.

JENNIFER BENNETT

Clinical Lead

I've been fortunate enough to work around the world as a nurse for over 20 years and have gained the credentials of Associate Royal Red Cross from HM the Queen in 2006. In 2007 I turned my interest and focus to Primary Care. I have now worked within the NHS for the last 7 years and am currently studying towards a Master’s degree in Advanced Care Practitioner. Throughout the pandemic I worked in a clinical capacity implementing government advice to treat unwell patients either through telephone triaging or face to face. Now whilst I thoroughly enjoy my time in a clinical setting, I am relishing the opportunity to make positive changes for the patients of Warminster in a more managerial role.

Nurses

The nurses are a critical part of the clinical team. All our nurses are fully qualified and registered in the UK and act in their own right as professionals, in accordance with the expectations of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. As well as running clinics in their own right they act as contact point for patients who need to discuss clinical issues. The work they undertake is essential to the smooth running of the surgery, and their clinical skills are appreciated by doctors and patients alike. All our clinical staff are fully trained, kept up-to-date, and are annually appraised in keeping with our Clinical Governance protocols.
