Prescriptions
Repeat Prescriptions
You can request a repeat prescription in the following ways:
- Using our Online Services via the link at the top of this page
- Via the Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) telephone system
Please request a repeat prescription 7 days before your medication runs out to allow the surgery to process your prescription and the pharmacy to dispense your medication.

Prescription Ordering Direct (POD)
You can order your repeat prescriptions by calling POD on 0333 332 0050 or email them at bswccg.podadmin@nhs.net.
Opening Hours 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.
The Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) service is the easy way for you to order your repeat prescription. All it takes is a simple phone call that you can make from the comfort of your own home – there’s no need to go into your GP surgery or pharmacy. You’ll speak to a trained prescription coordinator who can discuss your needs meaning you’ll only order medication when you need it – saving the NHS money to spend on other important services.
Once you have called the POD, your prescription will be available at your nominated pharmacy within 4-5 working days.
There is no need to register for this service, simply call when you have 7 days left of your medication.
*Calls cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02) and must be included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way. Calls from landlines are typically charged up to 9p per minute; calls from mobiles typically cost between 3p and 55p per minute. Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages.

Prescription Fees
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
- those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- those who are age exempt
- those with certain medical conditions
- More information is available at NHS Choices
NHS Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.65
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
- 3-month PPC: £31.25
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
